apartments
February 3rd, 2011
Besides the fact that our kitchen/laundry/bathroom/living room are all in the same room, and it is much smaller then my bedroom at home, our apartment situation is amazing! One of my best friends from high school, Victoria, and her three wonderful roommates, Hayley, Haley and Mic live on the third floor. Katie (my roommate) and I have the second, and two girls, Becca and Chelsea, have the first floor. We all get along great and have the whole building to ourselves!
First night out to dinner! We also live right next door to the best kebob place I have ever been to, Mesopotamia Kebob, and around the corner from a really fun Irish pub, Lions Fountain, which I am currently at because the wifi in our building doesn't work. Honestly, how will I survive? The owner of the kebob place and I have become good friends, as I have had maybe seven kebobs already and we've been here five days. I'm pulling a Julia Roberts (Eat, Pray, Love) and buying myself a new pair of pants tomorrow... do I need to point out why? Thank you delicious kebob place and amazing Italian food, now my pants don't fit. I definitely didn't think that would happen quite so soon but... when in Florence, right? I didn't eat pasta or bread for eight months in preparation to come here so the past few days I've clearly indulged.
Mustafa, the owner of the kebob shop, offered to teach me Italian! I can understand a little if it is spoken slowly. The woman I volunteered with, Melissa, taught me the phrase "Parla piu lentamente, per favore" which has come in handy a few times. Mustafa speaks 8 languages including English, almost perfectly, and he is refusing to speak English to me. Solo Italiano. Effective approximately 2 P.M. yesterday. I'm very excited to get more exposure to the language and be forced to communicate in Italian.
